Caleb Flynn Update (Sept. 2026): Jury Finds Him Guilty on All Nine Counts

David Hammond, a senior special agent with Ohio BCI who spent about 12 hours at the house, told jurors he found nothing to show anyone had forced a way in, and that his concern by the end was “a homicide staged as a burglary.” A garage side door handle was broken, he said, but that damage didn't match the hundreds of break-ins he has worked; BCI technician Holly Ryczek agreed there were no pry marks or kick damage outside the door. Montgomery County deputy coroner Dr. Bryan Casto testified to two gunshot wounds and said he couldn't fix the exact time of death. No gun has been recovered.

Her sister, Kayla Keyt, keeps the books at the family's flooring and furnishing company, where Flynn worked as a salesman making about $200,000 a year. Keyt testified the family met a financial advisor in August 2025 to plan for the two sisters and their husbands to take over, and that she later showed Flynn a spreadsheet suggesting he could make $300,000 to $400,000 a year if sales kept growing. Tipp City police Capt. Tony Smith said Flynn was the sole beneficiary of a $100,000 policy on his wife's life. Prosecutors are building motive from two directions — the affair and the money — and the affair half arrived the next day.

What did Alleigha Botner tell the jury?

Botner, who met Flynn in 2022 at their church, testified to an affair of about a year and a half and more than 100,000 messages between them, printed in 34 binders prosecutors had her read from. One text, from Aug. 22, 2025, had Flynn writing about ways to kill his wife without going to jail; Botner said she answered by urging divorce, which she called always what she meant on cross.

She admitted telling the FBI in her first interview that she didn't think Flynn had done it, then saying in a second interview that she did. Asked in court how she feels about him now: "I hate him."

Why does the missing gun matter?

Flynn told investigators he kept a handgun in his truck's center console; that console was open when police arrived, and the gun has never been found. A murder weapon isn't legally required for a conviction, but it gives the defense its cleanest line — nobody can show the jury whose gun it was or who fired it, which is the gap prosecutors are trying to fill with scene testimony and the texts.

How did the verdict come down?
